The Voltage Trap First things first: get your voltage right. These ruby bulbs are short-wave infrared, which means they’re picky. If your oven is built for 230V and you pop in a 110V tube? Pop. It’s gone instantly. But going the other way is just as bad. If you under-volt the tube, you’ll never hit those searing surface temperatures you need for a perfect, bubbly crust. And don’t ignore the wattage. If you had a 1000W tube in a 300mm space and you swap it for something lower just to save a few cents on the electric bill, your recovery time is going to tank.
