
If you’ve ever dealt with KHS blow molding machines, you know the headache of uneven heat. One minute everything is fine, and the next, you’re staring at bottles with weird wall thickness or, worse, total failures. It usually comes down to “cold spots.” When the thermal field isn’t hitting right, the PET doesn’t stretch the way it should. It’s frustrating. That’s why we built a replacement quartz lamp that actually fixes the uniformity problem. The secret is in the heat. Standard lamps have a annoying habit of cooling off near the connectors—what we call “end-effect cooling.” It leaves the ends of your preform under-heated. We fixed this by changing how the filament is wound. Instead of a standard coil, we adjust the wattage density per millimeter. This flattens out the heat curve, so the preform gets a steady, consistent hit of IR radiation from one end to the other. No more guessing. Built for the grind. These aren’t delicate bulbs. We use high-purity quartz glass because these things have to survive the shock of rapid heating and cooling, over and over again. We also obsess over the connectors (the R7s or SK15 types). They’re precision-machined for a tight fit. Why? Because a loose connection is a disaster waiting to happen—it arcs, sparks, and burns out your socket. Depending on your PET grade, you can choose different coatings. Shortwave lamps get you up to temperature fast. If you’re worried about scorching the surface of the preform, we’ve got coated versions that diffuse the heat more gently. Getting them running. Swapping these into your KHS oven is easy. They fit right into the existing footprint, so you don’t have to spend your afternoon rewiring the control cabinet. Just a heads-up, though: when you increase the heat density to get that perfect uniformity, your oven’s ventilation has to work harder. If you’re pushing the wattage to shave seconds off your cycle times, just double-check that your blower fans can keep up with the extra ambient heat. You don’t want the internals getting so hot that they warp your lamp holders.
